Counties Transit Improvement Board

Vision

The Counties Transit Improvement Board (CTIB) — comprised of Anoka, Dakota, Hennepin, Ramsey and Washington counties — is a significant leader in developing the Metro Area’s comprehensive regional transit system in collaboration with the Metropolitan Council and neighboring Scott and Carver counties. CTIB (through use of a metro sales tax and a motor vehicle sales excise fee) will advance transit projects in the Metro Area that will help commuters, residents and businesses move more quickly and efficiently.

The CTIB will:

  • Improve and enhance the region's transit corridors
  • Advance smart and cost-effective transit alternatives to support the region's economic growth

With smart, affordable transportation becoming a greater priority for Minnesotans, the CTIB’s regional investments will support the area’s transit lines:

  • Hiawatha Light Rail Line
  • Central Corridor Light Rail Line
  • I-35W Bus Rapid Transit Line
  • Southwest Transitway
  • Rush Line Corridor
  • I-94 East
  • Northstar Commuter Rail Line
  • Cedar Avenue Corridor Transitway
  • Red Rock Corridor
  • Bottineau Boulevard Corridor
  • Northern Lights Express

Background

This joint powers board has been working on transit development since 1992. In the past, we worked together as the Metro Transitways Development Board to coordinate a regional approach to rail and transit development. State legislation passed in 2008 created the CTIB to coordinate significant long-term transit improvements.
