The Red Rock Corridor commuter rail line will connect Hastings through the Union Depot in St. Paul to downtown Minneapolis. A portion of the rail line is shared with the Midwest Regional Rail initiative line to Chicago.

The Red Rock Corridor Project has received $2.8 million for the Newport Transit Station and $107,000 for the Red Rock Corridor Station Area Planning Project.
